Director

A seasoned nonprofit and community leader, Ama brings over 18 years of experience advancing food justice and food sovereignty through community engagement and cross-sector collaboration. She has demonstrated expertise in organizational leadership, strategic problem-solving, and cultivating partnerships across diverse stakeholders. As Executive Director of SeedChange, she championed the rights of small-scale farmers in Canada and around the world. At Black Creek Community Farm, she led transformative work to improve food access and justice in Toronto’s Jane and Finch neighbourhood.

Rooted in a family tradition of small-scale farming in Ghana and long-standing ties to the Jane and Finch community, Ama brings a deep understanding of how environmental and social issues intersect with equity and lived experience. Her work bridges movements - connecting climate action, food sovereignty, and social justice - and reflects a commitment to empowering the next generation of changemakers.

A sought-after speaker and thought leader, she shares insights on agroecology, food sovereignty, and environmental justice through media appearances, panel discussions, keynote addresses, and academic lectures. She holds a Master’s degree from York University, where her research explored the transformative potential of traditional knowledge systems and decolonization in reshaping food and environmental practices.
