Michaela de Hoop
Michaela de Hoop (she/her) is an Indigenous activist from The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba and has authored a planting, harvesting, and cooking guide to support food sovereignty projects in her home community. While obtaining her degree, Michaela’s dedication to advancing Indigenous inclusion led her to federal advocacy. She served as Vice chair of the National Indigenous Advocacy Committee for the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations and has been recognized with the U of M 2025 Indigenous Female Leader Award, the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations Rising Star Award, and honoured in a blanket ceremony for her work. She now ties her background in science, food sovereignty, and Indigenous rights into her political work. Through the Parliamentary Internship for the Environment, Michaela looks forward to supporting communities in the North with her placement with MP Lori Idlout (Nunavut, NDP critic for Indigenous Affairs, Justice, Arctic Security & Sovereignty, Natural Resources, Northern and Atlantic Economic Development).
